Four resolutions seek parliamentary approval in Dominica today

Four very important resolutions are to presented in the parliamentary for approval.

There are four resolutions that are seeking parliamentary approval on the Caribbean island of Dominica. Some bills are also expected to be discussed in the parliament session on beginning on Monday.

These resolutions include the contracting of some loan from the World Bank for several interventions, including the first resolution seeking the amount of 10 million 2 hundred and 60 thousand dollars.

The first resolution also includes additional funding for emergency agriculture and livelihood and climate-resilient projects.

As per Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, the second resolution is for additional funding for the Disaster Vulnerability Project (DVRP). During his weekly Anou Palay episode, Dr Skerrit stated that under DVRP East Coast Road and Emerald pool area, Castle Bruce, Kalinago Territory are listed.

"When we sent the project tender, the tenders came back higher than the funds we had so we had to seek additional funding which is in the amount of 35 million five hundred and thirty-two million dollars for the DVRP." added Dr Roosevelt Skerrit.

The third resolution seeks approval for loans from the World Bank, which stands at the amount of 77.4 million dollars for the digital transformation project that intends to create a digital economy for the country.

The fourth resolution is concerned with the regional health project and stands at 8 million dollars. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that this amount would be required as a response to tackle coronavirus in the country.

Furthermore, Prime Minister added that the interest rate on these loans is three-quarter of one percent per annum while the commitment charges of half of one percent per annum and repayment in 50 semi-annual instalments with a grace period of ten years.

Besides this, the Prime Minister stated that the World Bank was extremely helpful in allowing immediate access to funding to buy medicines, PPE kits, testing kits and all the necessities to confront COVID-19.
