Dominica now has thirteen active COVID-19 cases : National Epidemiologist

Dominica now has a total of thirteen active cases taking the toll of total confirmed cases to thirty-once. The national epidemiologist Dr gave new updates in recent press briefing of the health ministry.

Since the opening of borders to all travellers from August 7, 2020, onwards, Dominica has received a total of thirteen new cases so far.

Dr Ahmed stated that the only one patient has symptoms while the other twelve are asymptomatic. The active cases are between the ages of two years and 59 years.

"One has mild-symptoms mainly shortness of breath but no fever, ten out of thirteen cases are imported and have been placed at a quarantine facility on arrival," stated Dr Shalauddin Ahmed.

Furthermore, he stated that only three out of the 83 identified contacts of these patients have tested positive for the virus.

"96 percent of the contacts tested are PCR negative; currently 7 out 13 are at the COVID facility and undergoing isolation phase, while rest of them fully recovered," added Dr Shlauddin.

Dr Ahmed made clear that so far there is no evidence of community transmission of coronavirus in the country.

Furthermore, he also listed out the key points pf pre-arrival screening in Dominica. He stated that all travellers to Dominica must fill the online questionnaire and all travellers, excluding the people from CARICOM bubble are required to obtain a negative PCR test report conducted 72-hour prior to arrival in the country.
