Dominica to reopen borders for toursits from August 07 with strict guidelines

Small Caribbean island of Dominica is all prepared to open its borders to tourists from August 07, 2020. The Tourism Minister Ms Denise Charles made it clear that all nationals stuck in foreign lands because of the pandemic can come home from July 15 onwards.

Ms Charles announced that the border opening would be done in phases, wherein the first phase, Dominican nationals would be allowed to come to their motherland through the international gateways of Douglas Charles and Canefield airport.

"Dominica would be welcoming all travellers including non-nationals from August 07, 2020, as part of the second phase if all goes well" added the tourism minister.

However, it would be mandatory for all travellers to submit health solved health questionnaire online 24-hours before arriving in Dominica. The inquiry is made available for all on the government website.

Furthermore, all travellers must submit a PCR test negative conducted 24 or 72 hours before arriving in the country (presenting PCR result and notification is required).

Other protocols include that travellers must wear a face mask during their arrival, observe physical-distancing guidelines, maintain respiratory and sanitation, follow all health and security staff guideline.

Dominica has also issued guidelines for departure from the country, where the vehicle would only be allowed to enter the airport or seaport if the driver and the passenger are travelling outside the country.

"The temperature of all people entering the ports will be screened and passengers in the vehicle would be limited to a driver only to pick up as well as drop off." stated the minister.

Nevertheless, she stated that airlines would be encouraged to issue electronic boarding passes to reduce person-to-person touch.

Minister Charles stated that all these protective measures are implemented to combat the COVID-19 and would remain enforced as long as required.

The government claims to enforce health and safety guidelines to ensure that the probability of new COVID-19 cases remain low as the nation prepares to open borders for all from August onwards.
