Dominica becomes only country in OECS to have an MRI machine at a public hospital

A new milestone was added to the health infrastructure of Dominica on Friday when an MRI machine was commissioned at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital in Roseau.

Roseau, Dominica: A new milestone was added to the health infrastructure of Dominica on Friday when an MRI machine was commissioned at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital in Roseau.

The Minister of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment, Dr Irving McIntyre, stated that 22 October 2021 will always be remembered as a great day in the history of health care services in Dominica.

He stated the new MRI machine would take diagnostic capabilities at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) to the next level.

Minister stated the commissioning of the MRI machine compliments the services of X-rays fluoroscopy, mammogram and CT Scan available at our imaging department.

He stated that by February 2022, the High-intensity flow ultrasound (HIFU) Machine for minimally invasive management of certain cancers would be commissioned, and Dominica will again be the only country in the region with such capabilities.

Nevertheless, Minister extended deepest thanks to the People's Republic of China for such generous and timely donations.

Besides this, he stated the government plans to sign an MOU with the Brenda Strafford Foundation.

"The agreement will provide state of the art equipment for our ophthalmology department thereby developing an eye care centre of excellence in the region. For this, we are grateful and look forward to continued collaboration with friends of Dominica." stated the Minister.
