A vessel registered in Dominica sank after Russian troops fired a missile on a port in Mariupol, Ukraine. As per reports, the crew was evacuated safely; however, they are still in shock. Following the attacks, they took refuge on board of neighboring vessels
The Yahoo Finance news reported that the vessel was attacked by two missile shells while it was docked in the port of Mariupol, Ukraine, on 3rd April 2022, at 11:36 UTC.
While as per reports, on 4th April 2022, around 22:40 LT, the vessel was laboriously fired upon by Russian armed forces after deliberately shelling the vessel twice a day before. The crew reported shelling, bombing and numerous hits by missiles, resulting in a fire in the engine room.
Dominica Maritime Administration confirmed that m.v. AZBURG sank at berth 16 in the port of Mariupol Port, Ukraine.
As per the website Marine Traffic, built-in 1995, the AZBURG is a Cargo/Containership was sailing under the flag of Dominica. It had travelled Mariupol after a journey of 5 days, 1 hour originating from port Burgas, Bulgaria.
Eric R. Dawicki, Deputy Administrator of Maritime Affairs of the Commonwealth of Dominica Maritime Administration, condemned the attack on Dominica flagged vessel. He said that some intellectual and diplomatic resolution must be found
