Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: The health ministry of St Kitts and Nevis declared 11 new coronavirus cases identified during the contract tracing process. The new data was revealed on Sunday. The ministry of health and wellness of St Kitts and Nevis on Sunday revealed new data related to the COVID-19 situation in the country. The ministry revealed that the total number of confirmed cases is now 341, with 265 active cases, 75 cases recovered and one virus-related death. As per data, 326 of the cases were recorded in St Kitts, while 15 were registered in Nevis. New clusters are being identified daily.

The vaccination program of the country is progressing steadily, with 33, 496 doses administered, representing 67.5% of the persons who had at least the first dose from Saturday 19 June 2021.

The data revealed that 11 205 persons received their second dose, which is 33.9 percent deceive. To achieve herd immunity, 70 percent of the total adult population, which equates to 33,037, must be fully vaccinated.

The authorities continue to encourage the public to get vaccinated. Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris advised the general public to ignore the conspiracy theories related to the vaccine. He assured that the jab is safe and everyone must get vaccinated while the doses are available. St Kitts and Nevis' COVID-19 situation was in control until new cases started to appear in May 2021. In just a few days, the government declared the community transmission of the virus and also imposed a state of emergency. All types of gatherings, outdoor activities are restricted, and the breach of limitations is also punishable.

The authorities have also asked the general public to follow the guidelines and wear a face mask in public, maintain 6-feet social distance, frequent hand-washing/ sanitization. Besides this, any person with flu-like symptoms must visit a nearby health clinic.
