PM Roosevelt Skerrit nominates Vince Henderson as DLP candidate for Grand Bay re-elections
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit nominated Vince Henderson as the Dominica Labour Party candidate for Grand Bay constituency re-elections. Henderson is a former government minister and senior party scholar. PM Skerrit said the name was decided after serious discussions. The Dominica Labour Party has started out campaigning for the re-election of a parliamentarian from Grand Bay Constituency. On Tuesday, a constituency meeting was held. Leader of DLP and Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also participated in the meeting.  The re-elections to fill the vacant parliamentary position for the Grand Bay constituency must be held within 90 days of the passing of Edward Registe. He suddenly passed away on 1 September 2021 after heart stroke, he was admitted to the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital Roseau. The government is yet to announce the final re-election date, but the preparations and campaigns have already begun.  Endorsing Henderson, PM Skerrit said, "Vince Henderson is a young man with a bright future for life, he has walked this road before, but he never shifts responsibilities, he still remains very active in Dominica Labour Party, managing our two last general election campaigns,"  Skerrit said if Grand Bay accepts Vince Henderson as their parliamentarian, then he would also make some room for him in the cabinet. During his address, PM Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated he is still grieving the passing of his colleague Edward Registe, "For me, organizing a party activity would normally start and end with a single call by Ed Registe, he was your parl rep, but also the Labour party fixer," said PM Skerrit.  "I miss my friend Ed, and I take the opportunity to express my grief on his passing," said PM Skerrit at the constituency meeting.  Furthermore, he stated that the Grand Bay constituency voted heavily for Dominica Labour Party in the 2019 elections and Edward Registe was consistent in his duties as the parliamentarian. "It is imperative for me that the voices of Grand Barians be heard; Grand Barians are accustomed to a strong voice; in the past 25-years, Grand Bay was seated at various points on the roundtable of decision making, I am committed to ensuring that there is no break-in of that tradition." Recalling his appointment as the Prime Minister of Dominica, Skerrit said he is "reminded" that he assumed office after the passing of the "beloved son of Grand Bay", the former PM Pierre J. Charles.  "I remain humbled and appreciated of the warmth, love, support extended towards me by the people of Grand Bay," said Skerrit.  Furthermore, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that he always felt loved and appreciated in the Grand Bay constituency, "This is the constituency that has had back of Roosevelt Skerrit from the moment I assumed the leadership of Dominica Labour Party and the country," Prime Minister said the Dominica Labour Party is responsible for guiding the country in the challenging times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.  "No country, no government, no leader anywhere in the world was trained or prepared for the challenges that the coronavirus has thrown," said Dr Skerrit.
