Turkey takes a major step against IS fighters, sends back home a US national
Turkey official quoted on Monday that the country has deported a U.S. national who is claimed to be a member of the Islamic State group.
Ismail Catakli, Interior Ministry spokesman of Turkey quoted to the country's state-run Anadolu Agency that the government will also be deported a German and a Danish national later on Monday along with repatriation of seven German nationals on November 14th.
No further information was provided by Catakli about the IS suspects but said that they were being held in different deportation centers.
"A foreign terrorist fighter from the United States has been deported from Turkey after the procedures were completed," Anadolu quoted Catakli as saying.
Western nations, including Britain and the Netherlands, were criticized by Turkey for refusing to take back their nationals associated with terrorist groups.
Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu told that Turkey is not a hotel for IS militants and deportation of such individuals will begin from Monday onwards.
As per Soylu, there are about 12 00 foreign IS fighters currently serving their time in Turkish prisons while 287 members including women and children were captured during Turkey's military offensive into the northeast region of Syria last month.
Several European countries, including Britain, have stripped IS fighters of their nationalities, to prevent their return.
