The Kingston Public, Victoria Jubilee, Mandeville and Falmouth hospitals are to benefit from a project aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the institutions.
This follows Cabinet’s approval of the award of a US$5.35-million contract to Power Services Company Ltd to design, supply, install, commission and maintain energy-efficient and renewable-energy interventions at the hospitals.
Making the announcement at a post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House on Wednesday (November 14), Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, said the project could guarantee reductions in electricity consumption at the hospitals.
“This is further to the conduct of an energy audit to allow for comparative review of the submissions,” he said.
In the meantime, Mr. Reid announced that Cabinet also approved the award of a contract valued at US$121.1 million to supply medical gases to the Western Regional Health Authority for a one-year period.
In addition, Cabinet also approved a contract valued at US$875,707 to LASCO Distributors Ltd to supply viral load testing reagents and supplies to the National Public Health Laboratory for one year.
