US sends troops to protect its embassy in Haiti

Haiti: As the situation in Haiti seems miserable and law and order are unstable, the United States, to protect its embassy, sent a few security personnel to shore up security after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, 3 U.S. officials said on Tuesday.

The killing of President Moise on July 7 by a squad of gunmen at his private home in Port-au-Prince pitched Haiti deeper within an already fraught political crisis.

While it is not unusual for the United States to send further security forces, including Marines, to its embassies around the world through times of crisis, the deployment highlights the level of uncertainty in the aftermath of Moise's killing.

Also , Haiti is seeking for 5 more fugutive who suspected to inovled in this killings .

Remarking on condition of anonymity, the officials noted fewer than a dozen personnel were deployed in the days after the assassination, & it was not immediately clear how many had for returned to the United States.

Notably, Haitian authorities have said that a hit squad of 28 men, including 26 Colombians and two US citizens, killed Jovenel Moise in his home last week. His wife was also injured in the attack.

Haiti has also urged the deployment of United States troops in the country to help secure vital infrastructure after the assassination.

A letter from the Office of Interim Prime Minister of Haiti Claude Joseph to the U.S. embassy in Haiti, dated Wednesday & reviewed by Reuters, requested the dispatch of troops to assist the national police in reestablishing security and guarding crucial infrastructure.

On Monday, the US said it was helping investigate Jovenel Moise's assassination and did not rule out sending troops at Haiti's request. "At the appeal of the Haitian government, the Department of Justice, along with its United States government partners, is assisting the Haitian National Police in the investigation," the department stated in a statement. "A primary assessment has been conducted in Haiti by senior US officials. The department will remain to support the Haitian government in its review of the facts and circumstances surrounding this heinous attack," the department stated.
