UK bans travel to Jamaica, allows only essential visits

London, United Kingdom: Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK stated that it advises against all types of travel to Jamaica considering the recent spike in coronavirus cases. The new travel advisory was updated on Thursday, where FCDO UK wrote, "The FCDO suggests against all but necessary travel to the whole of Jamaica based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks." The office added that only essential travels could be allowed and people can only leave the UK from England if they have a reasonable excuse. The condition applies to both UK and non-UK passport holders currently residing in England. FCDO announced that it is unlawful to travel abroad without reasonable excuse, and also, travel to overseas for holidays is not permitted. It added that there are different rules depending on where the person is departing; Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales. FCDO also stated that people who fail to comply with the laws and tries to leave the UK without a reasonable excuse could be fined. Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office UK stated that in 2019 over 225,000 British nationals visited Jamaica, and most of the visits were trouble-free; however, the recent advisory has been issued due to the rising number of COVID infections in the Caribbean country.
