Trinidad and Tobago: The police officials in Port of Spain are investigating a tragic shooting incident that claimed the life of a man while another got seriously injured. The incident took place on Friday morning in East Dry River in the capital city of Trinidad.
According to the information, the deceased has been identified by his alias as Claude Sandy aka ‘Midget’, while the injured victim remains unnamed.
The preliminary investigations revealed that around 12 pm, a group of men were reportedly liming at Mariquite Street and Upper Duke Street when unknown man approached them before taking out their gun and starting to shoot.
The suspects subsequently fled the scene in a burgundy-colored car, and Midget and another man were observed bleeding from gunshot wounds. The residents of the area heard a series of loud explosions and notified the police.
It was reported that officers from the Port of Spain Division and the Inter-Agency Task Force immediately responded to the scene, where they were informed that warring gangs were exchanging gunfire.
The officers subsequently received information that two men were shot and taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where Midget succumbed to his injuries. The investigations into this brazen daylight shooting are continuing, with officials attempting to catch the suspects.
This was the 4th murder that took place in the Port-of-Spain division for the month thus far. The last murder that took place in Port-of-Spain was on Saturday, 13th April 2024, when 34-year-old Kerry Baird, a security guard of Fatima Trace in Laventille, was shot and killed while working on a building along Henry Street.
Baird’s relative believed that the murder occurred because he turned his back on a life of crime after the birth of his daughter around six years ago. He used to work as a security guard and resided at Fatima Trace in Laventille.
Following the incidents, the officials are urging the citizens to be careful and inform them of any suspicious activity around them.
