In a major relief for the Dominican Republic, the tourism figures broke records in March 2024, with the country welcoming a total of 1,104,270 visitors. These arrivals have contributed to the total figures, marking over 3.2 million visitors in the first quarter of 2024.
While announcing the development, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado said that from January to March a total of 3,225,484 visitors have entered.
He said, “More than 3M visitors have arrived in the country in the first quarter of the year! I am so proud of my people; we keep breaking records. 2,334,562 via air and 890,922 via cruise. A new achievement that belongs to all Dominicans!”
Minister Collado said that in March alone, 1,104,270 visitors arrived, entering 836,502 by air and 267,768 via cruise, and noted that this significant development is very much unbelievable but true.
The Minister also said that Tourism did it again and exceeded everyone’s expectations once again. The country has also experienced a whopping 16 percent growth as compared to March 2023, and it is 24 percent more than the same month in 2019. Of these, 61% of tourists visited the island of Punta Cana.
Minister David Collado said that the numbers are a clear demonstration of trust and love towards the destinations, the fruit of hard work in tourist safety and infrastructure improvements.
He also added that this is something that the country has never seen in the history of the Dominican Republic’s tourism sector.
In addition to this, the Tourism Minister also announced that several airlines are set to increase their flight frequencies and routes to the Dominican Republic over the coming months.
Airlines including Air Canada, Air Europa and Sunwing Airlines have expressed their willingness to increase their flights to the Spanish speaking island, which shows the growing presence of the country among the international passengers.
These airlines will operate from different countries from around the globe and will bring a huge number of tourists hence injecting more into the tourism sector.
