Supermarkets and foodstores to remain open 24-hours in Trinidad and Tobago

Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Dr Keith Rowley has declared that supermarkets and food stores outlets will be permitted to open on a 24-hour basis beginning on Thursday until January 3.

Rowley who announced on Saturday during a media conference said this was being done through the Christmas period.

He also stated that schools and other institutions will reopen their operations only virtually from January 4 and, if things go well, from February 8 Standard Five students and students in forms four to six may be able to return to school physically.

Besides this, the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service in an announcement on Sunday stated visiting hours would return at all of the prisons – with the exception of the Claxton Bay Correctional Facility, as of Monday.

The statement also told visitors that the safety steps implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19 remain in effect.

“The safety, health and well-being of our workers and charges are critical, as are our ongoing attempts to keep safe and secure environments and public safety,” the advisory stated.

“The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service continue to adhere to public health laws and make arrangements respectively.”

According to the advisory, while in-person visits have continued, virtual visits with prisoners via ZOOM will also proceed.
