Storm Alberto forms ahead of Atlantic hurricane season

Subtropical Storm Alberto is slowly moving eastward in the western Caribbean Sea, and will soon track north through the Gulf of Mexico through the Memorial Day weekend.

The weather brings the threat of flash flooding, rip currents, strong winds, coastal flooding and tornadoes to the Southeast.

Tropical storm force winds (winds of 40mph or higher) and storm surge inundation are possible along the northern Gulf coast late this weekend.

The Air Force Hurricane Hunters found a dilapidated and weak low pressure system off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula Friday afternoon with most of its shower and storm activity well removed to the east of Alberto, but it is expected to organise and strengthen this weekend.

This is basically a hybrid between a tropical storm with a warm core and a more typical low-pressure system you may find in the higher latitudes with colder, upper-level low pressure present.
