St Lucia Prime Minister Phillip J. Pierre tests positive for Covid-19

Castries, St Lucia: According to a statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 Virus (Covid-19) on Wednesday.

The statement further stated that the Prime Minister tested positive for the virus after he had undergone routine RT-PCR tests, following the protocols implemented by PM himself. The test report of PM Pierre came positive, and now he is under isolation will work from home.

The statement further anticipated the recovery of the PM in the next few days and mentioned that he hasn’t shown any COVID-19 related symptoms and is doing fine.

The statement read, “Prime Minister has prioritised the health and safety of others and himself. His health is closely monitored and continues to take healthy diet, has increased fluid intake.”

“PM Pierre has been both jabs and a booster dose of vaccine against COVID-19, as advised by the Ministry of Health,” the statement added.

Pierre, who joined the office as PM following July 2021 general elections, became the third and latest CARICOM Prime Minister to test positive for the virus. St Lucia PM has joined Belize Prime Minister John Briceno and Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.

As of noon of 9 February 2022, St Lucia has reported 21,831 cases since the pandemic has begun; of these, 1,784 are active cases. As many as 1,784 people are in isolation; no case is critical.

The number of deaths reported in the nation is 342, whereas recovered patients are 19,700. 129,748 people have undergone the tests in the country.

Around 108,777 people have taken vaccine against COVID-19; of these, 57,323 have received the first dose, and 51,454 have received the second dose.

The Minister of Health of St Lucia has advised getting fully vaccinated, boosted, and adhering to the COVID-19 protocols.
