Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: The political atmosphere of St Kitts and Nevis continues to touch new scales every day. Recent reports are arriving from sources revealing that the People's Action Movement (PAM) has cut down Eugene Hamilton from their list of candidates for the upcoming general elections.
As per reports, PAM's decision comes after Hamilton dropped his armour and himself accepted defeat by showing his vulnerability.Reliable sources revealed that leaders of the People's Action Movement recently made a decision to change the constituency for Eugene Hamilton. After comprehensive discussions, he was chosen to represent PAM from another constituency instead of number eight. However, later the survey findings indicated that Hamilton was losing from all 8 constituencies of St Kitts, leading to his removal from the candidate list.
The sources confirmed that the People's Action Movement has now selected a new candidate for constituency number eight. The new candidate is known to be an "experienced and seasoned leader" who is likely to win the seat, as per surveys.
The political scenario of St Kitts and Nevis is becoming more interesting every day as the majority of member parliaments filed a "motion of no confidence" against the Prime Minister and leader of the People's Labour Party, Timothy Harris.
The criticism is widespread after the Prime Minister, who always claimed not to fight for a "third term", refused to step down from the office.
People's Action Movement (PAM) and Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) have formed an alliance, what they are referring to as "real unity", calling for the Prime Minister to step down.In a letter to the governor-general, six elected members of the parliament wrote to the governor-general, proposing Shawn Richards as the new Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis.
Even though St Kitts and Nevis is the smallest country in the western hemisphere, the politics which is going on is exceptionally big.
The CCM, led by Mark Brantley, and PAM, led by Shawn Richards, are accusing Prime Minister Timothy Harris of a lack of transparency within the government offices. These two parties are demanding the PM to make the revenues of citizenship by investment programme public and give Nevis "a fair" share based on the "Charlestown Accord".
Six elected representatives of St Kitts and Nevis assembly wrote a letter to the Governor-General Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton showing no confidence in PM Timothy Harris. Following that, GG responded to the letter stating he has no constitutional power to remove a sitting Prime Minister. The governor general’s letter of response went viral on social media and PAM and CCM questioned the leakage from the higher office.
Following that People’s Action Movement again released a statement on Thursday stating that they are naturally disappointed with the conclusion but respect the ruling of the governor-general.
