Second case of taxi operator’s murder this week reported in St Catherine
A taxi operator of age 48 has been killed near Linstead in St Catherine. The deceased person belonged to Deeside and Wakefield district.

Jamaica: A taxi operator named Nigel Mighty of age 48 has been killed near Linstead in St Catherine. The deceased person belonged to Deeside and Wakefield district, Linstead.
Such a terrible incident has raised safety concerns among the public and taxi operators of the country. This murder was the second in five days. The records have highlighted that on May 25, 2024, a taxi operator named Kion Bartley as well known as ‘Rim Head’ was shot and killed near the same location that is Linstead.
As per the reports, the deceased taxi driver was seen in the morning around 8:20 am along the roadway when the explosions were heard. Later on, when the people reached him, they witnessed the gunshot wounds on his body.
The police stated that the gunshot wounds were found on Nigel Mighty’s upper body. This made people go into a dilemma as previous murder as well was investigated as done by gunshot. And, the arising concerns among the public due to this has forced the authorities to take certain required actions to foster safety and security in Jamaica.
In connection to the incident, the head of Spanish Town Taxi Association- Aaron Mattis has extended a call for greater protection for the public passenger vehicle operators. He further laid an emphasis on highlighting the need for safety of the operators.
He added that continuous two murder cases with similar situations happening in such a short period of time is laying a negative impact on the industry, and is spreading great sadness around. And, it seems like their lives are not important.
Such a concern shared by the head of Spanish Town Taxi Association has made the authorities have deeper discussions on the happenings going in the nation so the necessary actions could be taken.
