One of dancehall's biggest stars during the 1980s and 1990s

Saturday, 20th May 2017

Jamaican reggae star Frankie Paul died on Thursday, his family announced.

He was 52 years old.

He was best known for a string of hits in the 1980s, including Sarah, Tidal Wave, Cassanova and Worries in the Dance.

Paul was born blind, which led to him being dubbed the 'Jamaican Stevie Wonder', although an operation did restore some of his vision.

The musician had been admitted to the University Hospital of the West Indies last month, suffering from kidney complications.

In January 2016 he underwent surgery to amputate a foot and part of his leg.
