President Ali inaugurates Guyana Energy Conference

President Irfaan Ali kicks off the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo 2024 (GECSCE), a four-day conference with the theme of ‘Fueling Transformation and Modernisation’. The conference was initiated on the 19^th of February and will continue until the 22^nd of February 2024, at the Marriot Hotel in Georgetown with the exhibition floor being at the Crown Port and Industrial Park.

Shuttles have been made readily available to transport attendees between them. Both the Marriott Hotel and CPIP offer modern amenities and are easily accessible from within Georgetown and surrounding areas.

The conference consists of panel discussions from industry experts, presentations for entities to showcase their latest projects and initiatives related to energy, keynote speeches by officials and much more.

Outside of the center stage, the conference also acts as a networking and information hub that hosts business-to-business meetings, networking receptions and exhibitor booths.

Complimentary to the headlining events the conference also offers site visitations from operational energy facilities and projects in Guyana, technical workshops meant for skill sharing, and award ceremonies meant to recognize outstanding achievements and contributions to the advancement of the energy industry in Guyana or elsewhere.

The conference made contentious headlines on its first day with the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, defending his nation's right to explore natural resources.

Sheikh Mohammed also very explicitly commended and supported Guyana’s move towards energy security.

During his virtual address, he stated, “Qatar’s success story in the energy field has confirmed what we always believed. Every nation has a right to explore and secure its energy resources”.

He goes on to say “Energy security is the backbone of economic prosperity and development…the two are interdependent and cannot be separated in any context” adding, “With proper planning, tools and partnerships, every nation can fulfill its energy security”.

“This natural resource exploitation doesn’t only help secure energy security and equity for future generations but it also develops the host infrastructure. The world requires a robust mix of all energy resources for future populations”.

“We support Guyana to fuel its industrialization on its own terms with the resources the people of Guyana have been blessed with”.

He stated that with the discovery and exploitation of gas and oil reserves offshore Guyana, some factors need to be considered, namely those of supply chain and logistics; it is expected that a debate on this topic will take place during the remainder of the conference.
