National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore has condemned the recent violent activity which took place in Bath Estate on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Following the incident of firing which claimed the life of Silver Lake resident Marcus Fagan, Minister said that “One death is one too many.”
Marcus Fagan was attacked in the vicinity of a grocery shop at Bath Estate on Monday. Following the bullet injuries, he was taken to the Princess Margaret hospital where doctors declared him dead in early hours of the morning.
“At this time it is imperative that the police have an airtight flexible innovative and multi-facet approach to combating this treat”, he added. Rayburn asserted that the effort to cut off violence whether it involves lethal weapons can not be rested upon police only.
Minister Rayburn is of the vision that crime is a societal challenge and therefore needs a societal response to control it. “In this regard, a multi-sectorial approach must be taken to combat the critical situation”, said Minister.
Indicating towards the inclusion of community in policing is going to take place in few coming months, Minister said, “In the coming months the public should expect to see a real institution of the community policing programme, the importance of having a community involved in controlling the crime rate in the country can not be underestimated.”
He added that it is important to recognize that crime prevention is the business of every citizen of Dominica. “There is a need for a problem-solving approach having community leaders, persons in the communities, parents, teachers, spiritual individuals and other opinion leaders”, he asserted.
This is also to be mentioned that a news provider in Dominica also claimed that one male has been comprehended by police in connection with Fagan’s murder. Fagan was reported to have been fatally shot dead at a shop in Bath Estate on July 22.
According to unofficial sources, one man was brought before the police and has been taken to remand. More information will be uploaded as the story unfolds.
