Minister Denzil Douglas reveal plans to boost ties with India, Saudi Arabia, USA

The development was discussed during the Prime Minister’s Press Conference on February 13. Minister Douglas stressed on the recent appointment of a new High Commissioner from India to St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Amit Telang while emphasising India’s role as a significant partner to support the development goals of the island nation.
“As we continue to develop our bilateral relationship with nations, the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, and India are critical among those,” remarked Dr Douglas.During the conference, the Minister remarked that India is one of those nations which is available to provide the basic training of citizens of the Federation who will then be working in those new emerging industries.
In addition to this, the meeting also focused on considering collaborations in various sectors such as sports management, technology, geothermal and greener energy sources.According to Dr Douglas, the government is also planning to enhance diplomatic ties in India which will include the request for two honorary consuls in Mumbai and Bangalore along with a new high commissioner in New Delhi.
While talking about deepening ties with Saudi Arabia, Minister Denzil Douglas reflected on the productive results of a recent bilateral cooperation agreement which includes Saudi Arabia’s request for St Kitts and Nevis to open an embassy in the Kingdom.He said that the Kingdom continues to be one of the fastest growing economies in the world and also acknowledge the significance of this relationship for mutual benefits.
Meanwhile, Dr Douglas also noted that the United States has always been a cornerstone of St Kitts and Nevis’ global alliances and serves as its strongest trading partner. The collaboration with the US is significant not only for trade but also in acknowledging the political support being provided on the international stage.
