Jamaica Constabulary Force celebrates 75 years of enrollment of women cops in the force. It marks as a great milestone not only for the force but for the Jamaican society as well.

Women of unparalleled strength and devotion were acknowledged by Dr Clover Baker-Brown, a professor at Prince George's Community College, Maryland USA. Dr Clover appreciated them for being the torchbearers for the girls who dream to come to the forefront and serve the society.

Iris Tulloch, Sylvia Myers, and Florence Nelson were among the few forerunners who were honored by Dr Clover for being the inspiration for many.

On this occasion, a name that was specially recognized for setting the image of women being strong and equally capable of police jobs was Ionie Ramsay, retired superintendent of Jamaica Constabulary Force. She is popularly remembered as the 'motorcycle cop'. She earned this title for being the first Jamaican policewoman riding a motorcycle and normalizing it for the curious public.

Dr. Clover emphasized on how Ionie's picture had left an impact on her since she saw it for the first time, and upon getting a chance to speak for the occasion, she excitedly remembered to talk about it. She considers Ionie's picture as a tool for inclusion.

Around this occasion, JCF decided to remove titles that are gender specific, like 'women constables', which will just be called constables. Eliminating these words makes both genders equally capable of the role and implies that the roles and responsibilities associated with the role are the same for both genders.

Women cops serve as a non-negotiable part of JCF and to felicitate them for their service in the force 'The Commissioner's Award of Excellence' was presented to them. Apart from their duty in the force they have gone out of their way to protect Jamaica and turn it into a safer place.
