Urgent matters affecting Guyana’s agriculture sector will be given priority when the new Government presents its four-month budget for the remainder of 2020.

In a statement, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha said most of the projects to be undertaken were stalled due to the country’s five month electoral impasse.

Mustapha said, “We will be looking to improve drainage and irrigation, infrastructure and purchase new pumps. There are also some existing pumps that we will be fixing and some cultivation dams that need rehabilitating. We also hope to rehabilitate critical structures in the Mahaica Mahaicony Abary that have been neglected for years."

State agencies under the Ministry purview will submit their budget by this week.

The funds are expected to revive these state agencies whose financial state have been compromised due to a lack of resources.
