After four years in government, Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris is yet to deliver one major foreign direct investment to St. Kitts and Nevis, says leader of the Opposition Dr Denzil L Douglas.
"We continue to be alarmed that the government of Prime Minister Harris is yet to bring one new development project to St. Kitts and Nevis after four years in government," said Douglas.
Dr. Douglas, the former Prime Minister during his weekly radio programme on Tuesday night questioned the validity and state of play on hotel projects announced by Dr. Harris since taking office mid-February 2015.
"We had heard quite a bit about the Ritz-Carlton. We saw an information blitz by Prime Minster Harris, locally, regionally and internationally that the Ritz-Carlton was about to start construction at South Friars Bay in St. Kitts. Nothing is further from the truth. Dr. Harris has failed to bring the Ritz-Carlton Hotel development to St. Kitts and Nevis," said Dr., Douglas.
He also referred to Dr. Harris' announcement of a Six Senses Resort in the La Valle, Sandy Point, Newton Ground area.
"Again nothing is further from the truth," said Dr. Douglas, who pointed out that the equipment used to build the Park Hyatt St. Kitts, attracted to the federation by his Labour Party administration and should have been used to construct the Six Senses Resort by Range Developments, have been shipped out of St. Kitts to another country.
"The Six Senses Resort we are told will not happen again in St. Kitts and Nevis," Dr. Douglas told listeners.
Dr. Douglas, a four-term prime minister during his tenure has attracted several developments including the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino, Frigate Bay; the Marriott Residences, Frigate Bay; the Park Hyatt St. Kitts, Ross University expansion in the West Farm; Imperial Bay Golf and Beach Residences at Half Moon Bay/Conaree; Silver Reef, Frigate Bay; St. Kitts Eco-Park – a 20-acre Agro-Tourism project; Kittitian Hill (Bell Monte Farm); Koi Headquarters; Christophe Harbour marina; Dolphinium at Bird Rock Beach Resort; Renovation of Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI); Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine Research Center; Saltplage, The Pavilion, The St. Kitts Castle, Calypso Bay. Ocean Edge, St. Christopher Club expansion and Manor by the Sea.
Projects that started under the Labour Party administration and are at various stages of development include T-Loft at Pirate's Nest in Frigate Bay; Golden Rock Commercial Park, next to the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport; Koi Resorts and Residences at Half Moon, Heldens Estate Condo Resort & Residences (Ramada) between Newton Ground and St. Paul's and Montebello (Olivees).
Construction activity has ceased on the 226-unit Embassy Suites by Pelican Bay Limited, Potato Bay, Frigate Bay has ceased.
