Dominica: Young athletic champion and fencer from Dominica Zuri Alfred stood second at the first Leon Paul International Junior Series (LPIJS) 2024 in London. The Leon Paul International Junior Series is a fencing competition for Young athletes from different regions worldwide. The 2024 series are scheduled from January 1 to August 31. The series is divided into four age groups or categories, including U-10, U-12, U-14 and U-17.   [caption id="attachment_67338" align="aligncenter" width="617"] Leon Paul International Junior Fencing Competition 2024[/caption] Junior-level fencer and Young athlete Zuri Alfred has represented her nation, Dominica, for several years. She entered the 2024 LPIJS as ranked 4th holder in the 2023 series at the Budapest Olympic Fencing Tournament. She's currently in London and is representing herself on the international platform. Notably, Fencing is a combat sport that features sword fighting. The Dominica Olympic International Committee congratulated Alfred and wished her all the best for her journey in 2024. Meanwhile, several users on Social media also extended their support and love and lauded her for her outshining performance. A user, Magdelene Paul, said, "Congratulations to you. You have made your family proud and your country proud." "Congratulations and well done. Extremely proud of you," another user, Nathalie St John, added. "Well done, Zuri; keep up the good work," another user said.  Notably, In 2023, the young fencer, Alfred, successively cleared and made herself to round 32. She was defeated 10-4 by the 4th Ranked and could not advance to the Round of 16. In one of the interviews of last year in February 2023, Del Addison Alfred, the father of Zuri Alfred, expressed his daughter's excitement at the opportunity to represent Dominica in the Budapest Olimpici Fencing Tournament. He added that he is proud of her accomplishments and hopes that she can inspire young people as she continues on her journey. Zuri recently competed in the tournament and advanced to the Round of 32 in fencing.  Despite her efforts, she was defeated 10-4 by the fourth-ranked competitor, ultimately preventing her from moving on to the Round of 16. Nonetheless, Zuri's achievement in representing Dominica internationally is a source of pride for her family and supporters.
