Dominica update: The latest from the Nature Island
Challenges remain after Hurricane Maria

WIC News brings you a round-up of the latest updates from post-Hurricane Maria Dominica following the latest press conference.
- The main hospital on the island is working “at 80%”, which has been described as a “tremendous feat”. Reduced bed capacity, limited oncology practice but there is now access to blood
- All category three health centres are up and running; facilities are “fully stocked” and some have additional staff
- Marigot practices – accident and emergency – has been moved to Wesley
- Central medical stores have “large quantities” or what is needed on the island
- Pest control is underway, and the importance of waste disposal has been stressed as leptospirosis is a “major concern
- The government is experiencing “inherent challenges” as it attempts to distribute supplies
- Lack of storage space in Roseau causing problems
- Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said he will announce a solution for housing that is climate-resistant as the country rebuilds
- Dominica is still in a state of emergency; no plans for this to change at present
- New curfew: 6pm to 6am (to be reviewed over the coming days)
