Dominica: PM Skerrit holds significant meeting with President Jinping during visit to China (PC - Faceook)

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday. During the meeting, President Xi noted that Dominica is an important country in the Caribbean and a trustworthy friend and partner of China in the region.

The President added that the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other as equals since the establishment of diplomatic ties 20 years ago.

The meeting was attended by the Dominican delegation which comprised of Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, Dr. Irving McIntyre, Dr. Vince Henderson, Denise Charles-Pemberton, Cassanni Laville, Darron Lloyd and Permanent Secretary Mrs. Missi Henderson. In addition to this, Prime Minister Skerrit shared glimpses of the meeting on his official social media accounts and stated, "I met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday."

PM Roosevelt Skerrit mentioned that during the meeting, he discussed Dominica's long-standing relationship and pledged commitment to deepening the friendship between the two countries through vigorous exchanges and further cooperation in various fields.

Following the meeting, he also met with Premier Li Qiang and the Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee Zhao Leji.

During this meeting, Premier Li Qiang said, "This year marks the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Dominica. Over the past 20 years, the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other as equals, setting a fine example of win-win cooperation between countries different in size." He added that China welcomes the Dominican side to board the "express train" of Chinese modernization to boost bilateral cooperation in trade as well as economy, infrastructure construction, agriculture, health care and other fields. China welcomes more Dominican students to study in China and will continue to provide scholarships and training programs.

He also laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes on Tian'anmen Square in Beijing. Notably, PM Skerrit is on an official visit to China from March 23 to 29.

Moreover, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit toured Huawei's facilities, one of the world's leading providers of information and communications technology, on Sunday after he arrived in China.

He, along with the Dominica delegation, observed the cutting-edge business practices of firms operating in Beijing.
