On the special occasion of 41st years of Independence of Dominica, PM Roosevelt Skerrit welcomed all the secretaries and ministers. During his speech, he said, “we concede here in this beautiful and wonderful stadium to celebrate our 41st years of independence”.
He said, “sometimes on important occasions, we look outwards but there is a time when it is necessary to look inward. we must look back to appreciate what we have and to get a clear perspective of the future before we move forward”.
“We have restored confidence that Dominica is open for businesses, we have seen business recoveries and Dominicans living overseas returning and setting up a business here in our country”, he added.
He also stated that Dominica has Citizenship by Investment Programme (CBIP) since 1993 but in 2002 the program introduced variations. The government recognizes that tourism is an important revenue earner for our country and improving this sector have always been very crucial to help boost the economy and generate employment for the residents.
“In 2015, we signed an agreement wide-ranged development for 160 room 5-star resort on the luxury European Kempinski brand Hotel. I was pleased to participate in the official opening of that resort and I there say this resort rivals any 5-star hotel anywhere in the world”, PM Skerrit.
Dr. Skerrit also shared that when the other hotels and tourism projects on the west coast are complete, Dominica will have their platinum coast to attract and cater to the luxury travelers from around the world and provide employment and entrepreneurship opportunity for citizens residing on the island.
The hotel and tourism industry not only provides many opportunities but also helps in economic growth. Moreover, that part of the island is been transformed today.
