After category 5 hurricane blowout its wrath on the southwest coast of small island country Commonwealth of Dominica in September of 2017, most of the population was affected by Maria hurricane as more than 80 percent of the population were directly affected by it. Along with this more than 90 percent of houses were damaged and residents were suffering through heavily disrupted power and water suppliers.
The catastrophe of Maria was ground test of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit as Dominica was suffering from losses counting more than billions of dollars and GDP saw a steep decline after the disaster. It was the time when PM Skerrit took a step towards Citizenship by Investment (CBI) scheme to fund the free housing for the residents of Dominica who were left houseless after a natural calamity.
Recently, PM Skerrit made a statement “Dominica defied the odds and we are on a clear growth trajectory” during a meeting of climate and sustainability at
New York. He also added that Dominica is positively gripping towards sustainable development. The collaboration of Dominica government and Montreal Management Consultants Est (MMCE) have developed an intelligible policy at the national level to make ideal use of national resources to construct more durable and safe homes.
The government also took hand in hand with the Chinese government to make more expansions with the help of labour to complete the work briskly. A larger number of Chinese labourers can be spotted at the construction sites intensifying the workflow.
However, PM Skerrit also mentioned in his speech that the new infrastructure of houses for Dominica residents who were agonized with one of the most deadly calamities across the world now will be living in more sturdy houses and with the ability of resistance to hurricanes. The young dynamic leader of Dominica, PM Roosevelt Skerrit called upon the people of Dominica to make Dominica the first climate resilient nation.
