CARIFTA 2024: Nickecoy Bramwell breaks Usain Bolt's 22 year old record with time of 47.27s

A 16-year-old athlete from Jamaica, Nickecoy Bramwell, has achieved a significant milestone by breaking Usain Bolt's CARIFTA Boys' Under 17 400 metres 22-year-old record in a time of 47.27 seconds. The record was made by Bolt in 2022 as he secured a mark of 47.33 seconds.

Branwell secured this huge victory inside the Kirani James Stadium and not only secured a gold medal but also made history by breaking a two-decade old record and making his way to defending his regional title. Following him, the second position was secured by Grenadian Kemron Mathlyn, who took home silver after finishing at 47.96 seconds, while Bahama's Eagan Neely finished in 48.16 and secured bronze. Meanwhile, Bramwell's teammate Paul Henry finished fourth with a time of 48.63 seconds.

After the exceptional performance, Jamaican Nickecoy Bramwell said that he was eyeing to make this record since last year and is happy to have finally achieved it. He described the feeling as wonderful.

Earlier, the youngster ran a smart 47.86 seconds in the U17 400m dash to take gold on 8th April 2023, at the 50th Carifta Games in Nassau, Bahamas. Fast forward to 2024, a more experienced 16-year-old Bramwell broke the legendary Usain Bolt's 22-year-old 400m record of 47.33 seconds set in 2002.

Notably, the teenager was facing challengers with his recent hamstring injuries but said that he focused more on his goal rather than his injury which made his accomplish this huge milestone.

The whole world appreciates the athlete for his determination and achievement and is taking to Facebook to extend their congratulations to him.

"God keep him free from injury so he can have a long successful track career. Amen," wrote a user named Yolande Thompson while another user said, "Jamaica has been dominating the Carifta games for years now.I dont think any other country has even come close.And Jamaica just keep producing World Class Athletes."

In addition to this, the Jamaican team is leading the points table after the end of Day 2 at CARIFTA Games 2024. The team secured a total of 49 medals, including 24 gold medals, 15 silver medals, and 10 bronze medals.
