Caribbean weather: Advisories issued on tropical depression
Caution advised
The National Hurricane Center has issued a number of advisories on a tropical depression that formed last night.
As of 5am AST this morning, the centre of depression was located near latitude 13.2 north, longitude 40.0 west, or about 1,435 miles (2,309km) east of the Lesser Antilles.
The Dominica Meteorological Service has reported that it is moving west-northwest at around 16mph.
In St Lucia, the Met Office said it will “closely monitor the progress of this system as it moves towards the Eastern Caribbean over the next few days.”
Caution
A westward moving tropical wave, in combination with a weak trough, is expected to produce cloudiness, scattered shower and possible isolated thunderstorms across parts of the island chain during the next 24 hours.
However the tropical depression developments, people are being warned of increased rain and storms by Saturday and Sunday.
Anyone in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks should be particularly vigilant.
Despite the weather advisories, moderate seas are expected in the next 24 hours, with waves peaking at around seven feet.
