Caribbean Airlines resumes direct flights from Trinidad to St Lucia

Thursday, 19th August 2021

St Lucia: Caribbean Airlines will resume commercial operations to St Lucia with an uninterrupted service from Piarco International Airport (POS), Trinidad. The arrival of BW432 at George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU), was the airline's first trip to the destination since its closure in 2020 amid the global covid-19 pandemic.

Minister of Tourism in St Lucia, Dr Ernest Hilaire, joined the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority's (SLTA) Marketing Manager for Caribbean and Events, Christopher Gustave to commemorate the opening of another major tourism resource market under the Caribcation brand.

In 2019, the Caribbean Islands were recognized as Saint Lucia's second largest market for arrivals. The 83,466 arrivals in the Caribbean Islands recorded in 2019 were 7.2% more than the arrivals recorded in 2018. Trinidad accounted for 18,971 visitors, an increase of 10.56% year-on-year. Dr Hilaire and Cristopher Gustave proposed a special memorial plaque depicting the iconic twin kernels of St Lucia and niche markets, to Caribbean Airlines captain Dale Harrison and accompanying crew members.

Dr Hilaire said: "We are delighted to look back on the destination with Caribbean Airlines and look forward to welcoming our returning nationals and visitors from Trinidad and Tobago. The Caribbean market is important to us and is one of our biggest source markets for visitors to St Lucia. Having you back will definitely give you a lot of taste. I'm sure our smaller properties will be delighted and we appreciate the ease of transport between our islands."

St Lucia was the fifth destination in the Caribbean to be added to the airline's schedule for direct service to and from Trinidad. The SLTA works with the airline through a very purposeful digital campaign to promote the flight, and offers on the island, including accommodation, and the most compelling experiences.

Garvin Medera, CEO of Caribbean Airlines, said: "Caribbean Airlines is delighted to resume weekly service to St Lucia, one of our beloved markets. The enthusiastic welcome we received is encouraging and we look forward to working closely with the SLTA to connect St Lucia with the region and beyond. The Caribcation campaign will stimulate demand, which will be good news for all stakeholders.”

Two passengers with lucky seats received special welcome packages, and the first 30 departure points were equipped with trademarks. While Caribbean Airlines continues the gradual introduction of its commercial schedule, operations to St Lucia take place weekly. On Fridays the service departs at 10:05 at POS and arrives at 11:10 at SLU with the same day back.
