The Commonwealth of Dominica's real estate has been advancing international waves in current years. It has gained attention from globally renowned magazines to winning the travel industry's most important awards. Dominica's popular Cabrits Resort & Spa Kempinski was announced as the "Caribbean's Best New MICE Hotel" by the annual World MIC Awards. Since its opening in 2019, the luxury home has not only been giving a luxurious space to conduct business but has also been drawing wealthy investors from across the ball under the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme. For nearly three decades, the island country has been embracing foreign investors to become citizens under its CBI Programme once an economic supplement is made. There are two ways of investment available: a one-time purchase into the government fund or making a purchase of authorised real estate properties. Besides from the Kempinski Resort, there are seven other businesses to choose from including some hotel brands from famous hoteliers like Hilton and the Marriott. However, first, applicants must endure a rigorous vetting procedure that utilises both local and foreign agencies to conduct thorough due diligence. "There is a very robust due application process because we have to guarantee we protect ourselves as a nation. We also protect the applicant who is asking to become a citizen of Dominica and give them the faith [that they are] applying to become a citizen of a country that respects international law," asserted Mr Emmanuel Nanthan, Head of Dominica's CBI Unit during a recent webinar. Dominica is also one of the first rules to widen the definition of dependants under its CBI Programme, allowing to include of children above 18 years of age, grandparents, parents, siblings, and also the family of the main applicant's spouse. Successful applicants gain access to developed global mobility to approximately 140 destinations and the option to pass citizenship down for productions to come.
