Bulldozing of farmers' crops is vindictive, disrespectful and will be opposed"

The installed and illegitimate Ali/PPP regime is wickedly destroying the livelihood of the farmers in North Ruimveldt by bulldozing their cash and permanent crops

Guyana: The installed and illegitimate Ali/PPP regime is wickedly destroying the livelihood of the farmers in North Ruimveldt by bulldozing their cash and permanent crops, said Aubrey C. Norton of People's National Congress Reform on Saturday.

"This is a heinous and vindictive act because there is endless land in the area that could be used to build houses. Clearly, they are punishing the farmers of North Ruimveldt for supporting the APNUAFC," he asserted.

He accused that the claim of building a housing scheme is, therefore, the pretext government is using to destroy the livelihood of these farmers and their families and preventing North Ruimveldt from becoming a self-sustaining community.

"This is wickedness in high places. I hope the house slaves in the PPP tell their masters that it is wrong and wicked. I hope they encourage them to rein in their vindictive instincts and act rationally." The farmers in North Ruimveldt spent years building their farms. Now the unconscionable Ali/PPP regime is destroying their cash and permanent crops. One man complained that they are now seeking to destroy hundreds of permanent crops such as coconuts, mangoes, soursop, and other trees they have nurtured for many years. "This is a repeat of the PPP destroying cash and permanent crops in African Guyanese communities. The significant difference this time is there are no bandits hiding out in North Ruimveldt for them to blame as they did when they destroyed thousands of permanent and other crops in Buxton. This is the PPP punishing of our people in a barefaced fashion," Norton added.

While the government claims to be promoting agriculture and food security, they are destroying the people of North Ruimveldt farms. It appears as though the ALi/PPP policy on agriculture fits into their two Guyanas approach. Or are they suggesting that the people of North Ruimveldt are not entitled to food security? All in agriculture must be treated equally. The APNUAFC treated all in every sector equally.

Further, he accused that the Farmers of North Ruimveldt have a right to take care of their families and to supply their community with fresh produce. The PPP must desist or people will resist. And resist we will.

"The actions of the installed regime is creating political and ethnic tensions and must come to an end now or confront sustained community and political action against their corrupt, incompetent, and vindictive regime."

"We cannot build one Guyana and develop food security when the installed regime is creating unemployment rather than creating employment," Norton concluded.
