Man dies after being shot inside St Kitts' JNF Hospital

Victim died in attack; one person in custody

A lone gunman has opened fire in JN France General Hospital in Basseterre, killing one man.

Police have named the victim as Darnel Govia, a 31-year-old resident of Phillip's Village.

Sources are reporting that up to eight bullets hit the victim during the hail of bullets around 9am this morning.

One person is in custody.

According to reports, a person known as “Bushman” was waiting at the hospital.

A witness at the scene said: “Another fellow came through the hospital looking for him. Bushman ran in the direction of the lab and was followed by the gunman who fired bullets at him.”

People at the laboratory ducked for cover when the gunman was firing, according to posts on social media.

"The police encourages any person who may have information with regards to this incident to come forward and share any information they may have," the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force said.
