The budget spent to make “One Love” is US$70 million and the movie has already earned 90% of the overall expenditure.

The biopic of the Jamaican singer and guitarist has been produced by Paramount Pictures, Tuff Gong Pictures and Brad Pitt’s Plan B and it has got both commercial success and critical acclaim. The movie kicked off its journey in theatres with a strong opening on Valentine’s Day, collecting $14 million domestically in the United States. The huge earnings continued with $3,861,583 on Thursday and $7,450,000 on Friday, while setting a new record for midweek openers on February 14.

According to the Paramount Pictures, the previous record held by ‘The Vow’ in 2012, was surpassed by a considerable margin as the Bob Marley biopic resonated with audiences.

The President of Marketing of Paramount, Marc Weinstock, noted that as an artist, Bob Marley has had such a huge effect across generations and there is a reason why his music is still being played today and added, “And when you are able to rally around the music, the message and the person, there is always a chance to break out.” He further added that this is music which teenagers, parents and grandparents can come together to watch.

The diverse appeal of the film is also visible in its audience demographics with women comprising 56% of theatregoers, followed by Black moviegoers at 40%, Latinos at 25%, Caucasians at 23%, Asians at 5% and Native Americans at 7%.

The legacy of Bob Marley continues to transcend generations and One Love has undoubtedly secured its place as a huge cinematic celebration of the reggae icon’s enduring influence.
