Antigua: Five – including FAMILY OF FOUR – held on attempted murder charges

Police in Antigua and Barbuda charged five people with attempted murder and remanded in custody.

The suspects are a family of four and a friend, who are accused to planning to kill two brothers.

St Johnson’s Village resident Pedro Figueroa Valdez and his son Jonathan Figueroa, of Grays Farm, has been charged along with Valdez’s his two nephews, Juan and Radhy Figueroa of Grays Farm and Bendals, respectively

The fifth charged is José Pined, described by police as a friend.

According to the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, the five some have been “charged jointly with two counts each of attempted murder of Rafael and Joan Peña of Perry Bay.”

“It is alleged that on Sunday, 4 June, all five men went to the home of the brothers, armed with cutlasses and knives and attacked them while they were sitting outside of their house,” they added.

Additional charges

The Peña brothers received multiple injuries and had to be rushed to the Mount St John’s Medical Center.

Joan is still at the hospital receiving medical treatment. WIC News understands his condition is stable.

Rafael was discharged on the same day as the attack.

Both of the nephews have also been charged with causing malicious damage.

This is due to allegedly causing damage to a vehicle, which at the time was transporting the brothers to the hospital, police have said.

Committal proceedings are set to begin on 5 July 2017.
