The National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis convenes for a special sitting on Thursday, November 15 to salute the ‘25 Most Remarkable Teens’ awardees for 2018.
The recipients are being recognised for excellence in non-traditional fields such as Community Activism; Personal Decision to Change; Fashion Design; Spiritual Commitment; Volunteerism; Scholastic Achievement through Pageantry; Writing; and School Pride.
This marks the eighth year that the annual 25 Most Remarkable Teens awards ceremony is being held. Two-hundred youth from St. Kitts and Nevis have been honoured since the programme’s introduction in 2011.
Senior Youth Officer in the Department of Youth Empowerment, Sahira David, has coordinated the programme for three years. She noted that the 25 Most Remarkable Teens initiative holds a special place in the hearts of many persons. She said this is due to the truly outstanding actions of the teens, many of whom have overcome obstacles in their lives, She added that teenage awardees also demonstrate a strong conviction to be a positive force for change in their homes, communities and the nation.
“In its three years running, the programme has fuelled my passion for youth work even more,” Ms. David said. “I look forward to everything that is still to come from these teens, every member of society should continue to encourage them and other youth.”
The 25 Most Remarkable Teens ceremony is the only awards event that takes place during a sitting of the Federal Parliament. Parliamentarians from both sides of the aisle pay tribute to the youth before presenting them with their award.
