12-year-old girl killed by pick-up truck in Guyana

A 12-year-old was killed in a road accident in Farm Public Road East Bank Essequibo, Guyana, on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Varshanie Ramroop from Parika Facade EBE. The accident took place at 3:15 PM when motor pick-up owned and driven by Benjamin Parks of Windsor Estates ran into the 12-year-old who was trying to cross the road.

Enquiries disclosed that the pedestrian had just disembarked a minibus on the southern side of the road and was on her way to cross the road in front of the minibus when she was hit by the right side front portion of the motor pick-up.

As a result of the collision, she fell onto the road surface, where she received severe head injuries, resulting in her death. She was picked up in an unconscious state and escorted by police to Leonora Cottage Hospital, where pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty. The body of the deceased has been shifted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital Mortuary for post mortem. The police have served the driver notice of intended prosecution, and the investigations are underway.
