He released his run in partnership with Duppy Share Caribbean Rums, whose founder connected to Kano via Instagram prior to finalizing the partnership.
The pair decided on a rum that was 100% Jamaican, inspired by Kano's heirs. During the trial, Kano visited his family home in Brownstown, Jamaica, to help identify the flavours that would go into the final blend. The rum can be bought from Tesco stores across UK, and people can also order online.
The bottle design shows an illustrated Empire Windrush ship, and a canon of lyricism - "Every entrance to a door has left a footprint of those who came before. Let us talk about the day when the wind blew to shore." - in relation to the countless untold stories and cultural influences of the Windrush generation on London and the United Kingdom.
In a press release, Kano said: "For me, everything I do has to be the right deal. This drink comes from me. This is my life, my family's story in this bottle, and wrapped around this bottle. This is something in which I believe in and really love as a product. That was an important thing for me to create something that I would buy myself, drink myself." said the rapper.
Kano said he went out of his way to test it with family members and friends to see if they were getting the same feel.
"People really, really enjoy the Caribbean Rum. Some people do not know even drink rum, or it's not their thing: they drink it and they are a fan. It was a fun experience to get friends and family, and colleagues there. I can not wait for the whole world to get their hands on it." said Kano.
