Nigerian President failed to address the massive shooting at protests

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari addressed to the nation regarding the crisis that has grasped the nation in current days without presenting any mention of the deadly discharging of nonviolent demonstrators that aroused international outrage.

Buhari announced on Nigerians to end protesting and engage with the government in a short-lived televised address on Thursday. The firings have been widely reprobated, but he seemed not to talk of them at all through his speech.

“I would like to request to demonstrators to perceive and take account of the different well-thought-out actions of this government that are intended to make their lives better and more meaningful and resist the temptation of being practised by some subversive factors to cause confusion to truncate our nascent democracy,” stated Buhari.

“For you to do differently will amount to weakening national security and law and order… Under no conditions would this be permitted.”He called on Nigeria youths “to discontinue the road demonstrations and constructively involve the state in getting clarifications. Your voice has been listened loud and clear, and we are returning”.

Shots sounded out in the wealthy Ikoyi neighbourhood of Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos on Thursday with spectators stating attackers attacked a quarantine department in the area that is home to government offices.

Smoke was also seen flying from the place of Ikoyi correctional facility, and trucks transporting police were seen travelling towards the jail. The remains of a dozen cars smoked in the upscale Ikoyi community and two official houses were burning.

Other accounts submitted the gunfire emerged from an endeavoured escape by prisoners. It was unclear if any prisoners fled.

Soldiers guarded the roads of the city on Thursday a day after several places– including police stations, a TV channel and the port – were torched.
