A manhunt was underway early Monday after an Alabama police officer was shot and killed, another critically wounded and a third injured at a trailer home park, officials said.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said the three officers were shot around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday while on a “routine domestic call” at the trailer park in south Auburn.
“When the officers arrived they encountered gunfire,” Harris said. “One was airlifted from the scene and he later died. The other two were transported. One is critical.”
The State of Alabama issued an Emergency BLUE Alert asking for the public's help in finding Grady Wayne Wilkes. These alerts are issued when officers are killed or critically wounded.
No motive for the shooting was given.
Authorities said the 29-year-old is believed to be a serious risk to the public.
A law enforcement command center was set up at Auburn University, which warned students to stay away from the mobile home park about five miles from campus, The Associated Press reports.
Wilkes was last seen wearing camouflage clothing with body armor and a helmet at the Arrow Head Trailer Part in Auburn at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police said the officers were shot after responding to a domestic disturbance at the trailer park.
