Grenada is registered to receive 45,600 COVID-19 vaccines following the COVAX facility, and delivery is expected to start later this month under the World Health Organisation’s Emergency Use Listing Procedure (WHO EUL). The WHO EUL is a risk-based system for evaluating and listing unlicensed vaccines, therapeutics, and also vitro diagnostics with the ultimate aim of expediting as well as the availability of these products to people hit by a public health crisis. According to the interim order forecast within the countries in the region that are also British Overseas Territories are scheduled to got vaccines from the British.

The forecast report said that on average, 3.3% of the total people of the 145 participants territories are taking doses from at least one manufacturer.

Health Minister Nickolas Steele stated that Grenada has already agreed to its priority list.

“They are required workers and people who meet the prerequisite to be categorized as risk high through age or being pre-conditions,” he said.

The date for the vaccine approach is not yet not made public but once they are on the island, the people will be made conscious of the date set to start treating those on the favorite list. Police Officers, Nurses, Doctors are on the priority listing.

Annually, Grenada and PAHO feature states observe Vaccination Week in the Americas during the month of April and this week it will be noted from April 24th to 30th.

Vaccination week is used to promote various use of treatments to protect against diseases for which a vaccine is available.

Grenada will be supporting the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine, licensed to Serum Institute of India under an advance purchase arrangement.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell has declared that there is no law to force persons to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
