Brazilian footballer Pele has undergone surgery for a suspected tumour and is recovering has been treated at a hospital in Sao Paulo. As per reports, doctors had discovered the tumour during routine cardiovascular and laboratory tests.
The samples were sent for pathological analysis, said Albert Einstein Hospital, where Pele has been receiving treatments since August 31.
"I thank God I felt very good," the 80-year-old wrote Monday on his Instagram page.
"Fortunately, I'm used to celebrating big victories alongside you.
"I will face this match with a smile on my face, a lot of optimism and joy for a life surrounded by the love of my family and friends."
Pele is due to get discharged from the intensive care on Tuesday, the hospital declared in a declaration.
Pele, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, has been in poor health recently and had several spells at the hospital, most recently in April 2019 in Paris due to a severe urinary tract infection.
Back in Brazil, he had removed a kidney stone.
At the end of 2014, he suffered from a severe urinary tract infection and was put on intensive care and dialysis.
He also has hip problems and needs a walker to move around during his recent public appearances.
In February 2020, Pele reassured his fans about his mental health after comments from his son Edinho that said he was "retiring" and "suffering from a certain form of depression".
