Antigua and Barbuda: St John's Harbour 87% complete, Browne calls it biggest investment

The government of Antigua and Barbuda has reached the final design to transform the St John's Harbour redevelopment project.

The government of Antigua and Barbuda has reached the final design to transform the St John's Harbour redevelopment project. In a press release, the government stated that to operate efficiently, effectively, and in a modern way, St. John's Harbour has had to be modernized.

The government said the port is now at approximately 87% completion and represents the single largest public sector investment undertaken by any government in history.

The press release revealed that approximately 87% of the port's redevelopment is complete, and it will become the most versatile, modern, and competitive port in the Caribbean.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne stated, "This project represents the single largest public sector investment undertaken by any government in history."

"After completion, we will be the only Eastern Caribbean port that can simultaneously berth five cruise ships and three container ships within the same harbour," said Darwin Telemaque, Port Manager.

A miniature model of the newly redeveloped St. John's Harbour Port will be on display in Parliament during the 2022 Budget Statement Presentation.

The St. John's Harbour began construction in 2018, and construction of the port continued throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
