AccuWeather predicts 'Explosive' hurricane season ahead, 20-25 named storms foreseen

AccuWeather, a private weather forecaster based in the U.S., predicted an above-average active hurricane season. This year, it has forecasted 20-25 named hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin.

According to historical data, storm activity is expected to be higher than that of the last 30 years. These storms are supposed to pose a greater risk in some areas than others. Direct impacts are expected in parts of Florida, Texas, and the Carolinas.

Alex DaSilva, lead hurricane forecaster of AccuWeather, predicted that the coasts of Texas, Florida Panhandle, South Florida, and Carolina are at higher-than-average risk of being directly impacted by hurricanes this season.

The weather forecasting company has projected that out of the 20-25 named storms, 8 to 12 will be hurricanes. Four to seven of these are expected to be more severe than the others, and four to six of them will have direct impacts on the U.S. The Atlantic hurricane season will start on June 1st, but it might roll in earlier, as predicted by AccuWeather. Typically the season lasts from 1st of June to the end of November. All the expected storms are forecasted to be more severe than any of their kind in the past few decades.

The team of AccuWeather calls the hurricane season 'explosive' this year, owing to the potential damage it can cause due to its hyperactivity. One reason for this hyperactive season might be the presence of warm water for fledging systems to tap into and strengthen themselves.

The temperature of water above the sea is warmer than it was in past years, and this will pose a risk of tropical systems spawning, even in November, after the tropical hurricane season typically rolls out.

Alex De Silva presented the critical points in the latest AccuWeather report and urged people to take necessary precautionary measures in order to keep their families and themselves prepared and safe during the upcoming 'explosive' hurricane season.
