Emma Broyles becomes first Korean American to get crowned as Miss America
Emma Broyles became the first Korean American and the first Miss Alaska to be crowned Miss America on Thursday night. The 100th Miss America contest held in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, according to The Insider.

According to Alaska Public Media, she added, "As a Korean American, I am very happy for the opportunity to compete with so many intelligent, amazing women."

"I wish to honour the Miss America Organization's tradition by serving as a positive role model for women of all ages." It's been an honour to represent Alaska, and I'm looking forward to having a substantial difference on the national scene through my social impact effort."

Broyles suffers from dermatillomania as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Her disease prompts her to pick at her skin all the time.

"As Miss Alaska, one of the things I've really tried to do is show people that I'm authentic." I'm not perfect. Broyles explained, "I have ADHD and dermatillomania, which is a type of OCD."

"I've suffered with all of those issues, and as a result, I've grown as a person."

Broyles studies biomedical science and voice performance at Arizona State University, according to the Insider.

Her victory, she claims, signifies a positive shift in the Miss America contest.

She described the company as forward-thinking. What matters, she argues, is "who you are as a person," not "what you look like."

"It doesn't matter where you come from. It makes no difference who you love. "It doesn't matter," she said.

"What matters is who you are as a person, who you want to be, and what kind of change you want to see in the world," says the author.
