Trinidad and Tobago: Body of woman who went missing on Tuesday found floating in water

The dead body of a 30-year-old woman who went missing in Trinidad and Tobago was found by the police days after her family filed a complaint. The police discovered the body in Arnos Vale. The body was discovered floating in waters off the coast in Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago police stated that the 30-year-old Vanna Girod, also known as Vanna Vee of Butu Road, Valsayn South, had gone for a walk on Tuesday and never returned home. She was last seen leaving her aunt's house located at Arnos Vale, Tobago.

Hours after she failed to return home, her father and brother filed a missing complaint at the Shirvan Road Police Station. The police had started searching for Girod around the town, and her green and grey sweater and a pair of green and blue pants were recovered from one of the trails near the villa.

A group of officers led by Supt Rohdill Kirk were investigating the area on Wednesday morning when they received a call regarding a body floating in the waters off Arnos Vale.

The body was recovered and taken to the shore by residents using a fishing boat. The body was later identified by Girod's family members.

"We conducted a search in the Arnos Vale area this morning (Wednesday)," Kirk told reporters at the scene. We had been out since approximately 9 a.m. when we received a call around 10.30 a.m.

"A few people were willing to help, so they rented a fishing boat and went out into the waves, where they discovered a body floating about 300 metres offshore. It wasn't confirmed until the body was washed up on the beach and relatives recognised it as the missing person's."

Shortly around 2 pm, a district medical officer arrived on the site and examined the body. It was subsequently brought to the Scarborough General Hospital's mortuary.

Kirk stated that the body will be medically examined to ascertain the cause of death. He stated she had some abrasions on her skin, "but that is not unusual for bodies recovered in the sea."
