34-year-old bailed by Scarborough Magistrate for brutally harming partner

A Speyside man, who allegedly assaulted the mother of his children, was granted $20,000 bail after appearing virtually before a Scarborough Magistrate on June.

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: A Speyside man, who allegedly assaulted the mother of his children, was granted $20,000 bail after appearing virtually before a Scarborough Magistrate. Ako ‘Dumba George, 34, a plumber, was arrested and charged by WPC Kerr, of the Gender-Based Violence Unit, on June 9th 2021 and appeared virtually before Scarborough Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor. George was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and was not called to plead. He was also ordered to refrain from any form of violence towards the woman nor is he to have any interactions with her whatsoever. On May 7th 2021, a woman reported to police that a man allegedly confronted her at the home of a friend and began hitting her about her face and head causing injuries. WPC Kerr carried out extensive investigations into the incident and later charged GEORGE with assault occasioning bodily harm. The woman was referred to the Victim and Witness Support Unit for counselling and support.

Incidents of domestic and gender-based violence are highly common across Trinidad and Tobago, many organizations are standing up against such heinous crimes, demanding strict laws.
